Editorial policy

Who we are

UB1UB2 is a local news and community platform for West London, run by Southall Social Ltd. We cover Southall, Hayes, Ealing, Hounslow, Harrow, Wembley and the surrounding areas across Instagram, TikTok, our website and the UB1UB2 app.

Every story is approved by the UB1UB2 Editor before it goes out. The Editor makes the final call on what we publish, how it's worded, and whether it's corrected or removed. You can contact the Editor at hello@ub1ub2card.com.

Accuracy and sourcing

We check stories before we post them. Where we can, we use first-hand footage, official sources such as the police, the council and TfL, and people who were there.

  • If we can't confirm something yet, we say so plainly, using words like "reportedly" or "locals say". We never state it as fact.
  • We keep news separate from opinion and say clearly when something is a comment or a reaction.
  • We don't make up quotes, stage footage or edit clips in a way that changes what happened.
  • We don't use headlines or captions that the story doesn't back up.
  • When we use someone else's footage or reporting, we credit them.
  • The articles on our news website are fuller versions of stories we have already published. Each one is written from our approved post and checked against official sources such as the police, the council and TfL. Where a detail can't be confirmed, the article says so, and the Editor can correct or remove any article at any time.

Crime, privacy and children

Crime and safety stories help people look out for each other, so we handle them carefully.

  • We blur number plates, house numbers and the faces of anyone who isn't the subject of the story.
  • We don't name or identify suspects before they're charged, and we follow court reporting restrictions.
  • We never identify a child who is a victim, a witness or a suspect, and we don't show children's faces without a parent's consent.
  • We don't identify victims of sexual offences.
  • We don't post anything that could put someone at risk or get in the way of a police investigation.
  • We report deaths, suicide and serious injury with care, without graphic images, and we add support details where it helps.

Paid partnerships and independence

Businesses can pay to promote themselves with us, but they can't pay to change our news.

  • Every paid post is labelled as a paid partnership or ad, in line with ASA and CMA rules.
  • Advertisers and UB1UB2 Card partners get no say over our news coverage, and they can't pay to remove or soften a story.
  • If a story involves a business we work with, we say so.
  • We don't take payment or gifts in exchange for news coverage.

Community submissions

A lot of our stories come from locals sending us videos, photos and tips.

  • We only post footage when the sender says we can, and we credit them unless they ask to stay anonymous.
  • We protect anonymous sources and never share who sent us something without their permission.
  • We check submitted footage before posting it, and we say when we haven't been able to confirm it.
  • Posts in the UB1UB2 app are moderated, and anyone can report a post for review.

Corrections and complaints

If we get something wrong, we fix it quickly and openly.

  • If you think we got something wrong, email hello@ub1ub2card.com with a link to the post. We aim to reply within 2 working days.
  • If we got a fact wrong, we correct it in the caption or post a correction, and we say what changed. We don't quietly delete posts to hide a mistake.
  • Anyone who is criticised in a story gets a fair chance to reply before we post where possible, and after if not.
  • We take down or blur content when there's a real risk of harm, a legal reason, or a valid privacy request.

The UB1UB2 Editor reviews this policy every year.
