Stephen Mulhern seen filming In for a Penny-style challenge on Staines High Street
The ITV presenter was outside Greggs on the High Street on Thursday, where a crowd of shoppers watched one woman try to catch a sausage roll in her mouth against the clock.
The television presenter Stephen Mulhern was seen filming a street game with members of the public on Staines High Street on Thursday 5 November.
Footage shared with UB1UB2 shows Mulhern outside the Greggs bakery on the pedestrianised High Street, near the Two Rivers shopping centre. A camera crew with a boom microphone was working there and a crowd of shoppers had stopped to watch.
Locals said the filming looked like one of the games from In for a Penny, his ITV programme. In one challenge, a woman was reportedly given 100 seconds to catch a sausage roll in her mouth.
Not yet confirmed by ITV
ITV has not announced what the filming was for or when it might be shown. It is not known whether the footage will be used in a new series of In for a Penny, in another Mulhern programme or in a one-off feature.
In footage from the scene, staff in high-visibility vests can be seen managing the crowd while the cameras were rolling. Shops on the street appeared to stay open as normal.
About the show
In for a Penny started as a segment on Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway. It became a programme in its own right on ITV1 in April 2019, with Mulhern as host.
In the show, Mulhern travels around the country and challenges unsuspecting members of the public to play quick-fire games for cash in shopping streets and town centres. Contestants can choose to keep their winnings or risk them on the next game.
Six series were shown between 2019 and 2024. Over that time the programme visited places such as Liverpool, Newport, Plymouth, Bristol and Peterborough. The 2024 series ended with a finale filmed at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.
Staines town centre
Staines-upon-Thames is in the borough of Spelthorne in Surrey, a few miles south of Heathrow Airport. Its High Street is the town's main shopping street and runs alongside the Two Rivers and Elmsleigh shopping centres, which made it a busy place to film on a weekday lunchtime.
It is not yet known whether other parts of the town were used for filming, or whether any other local shoppers took part in games. If ITV confirms a broadcast date, viewers in Staines may get to see their High Street on screen.
