A silver car was found wedged nose-first into a roadside barrier under the A40 flyover at Greenford Roundabout in the early hours of Sunday 25 October.

Footage shared with UB1UB2, filmed at about 2am, shows the car up on the kerb with its front end pushed into the metal barrier. Its hazard lights are flashing and no one can be seen around it.

The person who filmed it said the car had crashed and that the driver then ran off. The footage does not show the crash or anyone leaving the car, and the claim has not been confirmed by police.

What is known

The Metropolitan Police have not said how the car came to be in the barrier, whether anyone was hurt, or whether anyone has been arrested or is being sought. It is also not known how long the car stayed there or when it was taken away.

The footage shows the road surface looking wet, with debris on the carriageway next to the car. There is no confirmed information on the conditions at the time or on how the car was being driven.

A busy junction

Greenford Roundabout is where the A40 Western Avenue meets Greenford Road, the A4127. The A40 runs over the roundabout on a flyover, and local traffic uses the roundabout underneath.

The A40 is one of the main routes between central London, Ealing, Northolt and Hillingdon, and on towards the M40. It is part of the road network run by Transport for London, and the Greenford flyover section carries heavy traffic at most times of day.

Motorists who use the junction regularly will know how fast traffic can approach the roundabout from the slip roads. Crashes on and around this stretch of Western Avenue have closed lanes and caused delays before.

Information and witnesses

Anyone who was driving through Greenford Roundabout around 2am on Sunday 25 October and saw what happened, or who has dashcam footage, can contact the police on 101. In an emergency, always call 999.

Information can also be given anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Ealing Council and Transport for London handle reports of damaged barriers and other street furniture on local roads. On the A40 itself, damage can be reported to TfL.
