King Street in Southall was closed in both directions on the morning of Tuesday 6 October after a police chase ended in a crash involving several cars.

Dashcam footage shared with UB1UB2 shows a white Mercedes, with police following it, coming through a junction on King Street. It then hits two cars on the other side of the road.

The Metropolitan Police have not said whether anyone was injured or whether anyone was arrested.

The scene

Footage from around 9.45am shows the Mercedes stopped at an angle across the road. It is badly damaged and its airbags have gone off.

A black hatchback was left crumpled at the front. Another car further along the road had damage to its rear.

Pictures from the scene show traffic cones across the road and debris on the tarmac outside a row of shops. Police officers stood beside the damaged Mercedes.

Police and the fire brigade were at the scene. Buses were held up behind the cordon, and crowds gathered on the pavements to watch.

A busy shopping street

King Street is one of Southall's main shopping streets. It is lined with sweet shops, bakeries, grocers and other independent businesses, and it carries heavy traffic and several bus routes.

It has a 20mph speed limit and is busy with shoppers and people walking to school and work through the morning. A closure there quickly causes delays on the roads around it.

The Metropolitan Police has not published any statement saying why officers were following the Mercedes, or what happened to its driver or anyone in the other cars.

What happens next

It is not known how long the road was closed. By the time of the footage, the vehicles were still at the scene and the cordon was still up.

Anyone who saw the crash, or who has dashcam or phone footage from King Street that morning, can contact the police on 101. Always call 999 in an emergency.

Information can also be given anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
