A police pursuit ended in a crash on King Street in Southall on Tuesday morning, 6 October. The road was closed in both directions for several hours.
Dashcam footage shared with UB1UB2 was filmed from a car waiting at traffic lights by King Street, and its timestamp reads shortly before 10am. It shows a white Mercedes being followed by police as it comes through the junction. The car then hits two vehicles on the other side of the road.
A few seconds later, police cars with blue lights flashing pull up behind the Mercedes. Officers get out and move quickly to secure the scene while people watch from the pavements.
Road closed and buses delayed
Locals said King Street stayed shut in both directions for much of the morning. Buses on the route were held up, and crowds gathered along the busy shopping street while emergency services dealt with the scene.
King Street is one of the main routes through Southall town centre. It links the area around Southall Broadway with Norwood Green and the roads to the south, so closing it affects buses, deliveries and local traffic heavily.
What is and is not known
The Metropolitan Police have not said publicly what led to the pursuit, whether anyone was hurt or whether anyone was arrested. It is not clear why officers were following the Mercedes.
It is also not known what condition the people in the two cars that were hit are in, or whether anyone needed hospital treatment. The Met has been approached for comment.
In the UK, crashes during police pursuits can be referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, which oversees how police complaints and serious incidents are handled. It has not been confirmed whether this incident has been referred.
