Woman charged after police officer shot in the foot at Nottingham bus stop
A 27-year-old woman has been remanded in custody over the shooting of an officer in Angel Row, Nottingham city centre, on 18 October. She is due at crown court on 20 November.
A 27-year-old woman has been charged after a police officer was shot in the foot at a bus stop in Nottingham city centre.
Aisha Zaman is charged with possession of a prohibited firearm and with possession of that firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence. The court was told the firearm was an adapted shotgun.
She appeared at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Friday 23 October and was remanded in custody. She is due to appear at crown court on 20 November.
What happened
Nottinghamshire Police said the officer was shot in the foot after he approached two suspects at a bus stop in Angel Row at about 4.50am on Sunday 18 October.
Police said the two people had been acting suspiciously. When Zaman appeared before magistrates, the court heard that the shotgun fell to the floor and went off.
The officer remains in hospital in a stable condition and has had several operations.
On the morning of the shooting, forensic officers worked behind a police cordon along Angel Row. The street is a busy part of the city centre, with shops, fast food outlets and bus stops.
Arrests and inquiries
Nottinghamshire Police said several arrests were made in the hours after the shooting. By the time Zaman was charged, six people had been arrested in total, and police said their inquiries were continuing.
Because Zaman has been charged, the case is now active and will be decided by the courts. She has not yet entered a plea at crown court.
