A family in Norwood Green, Southall, say their home was broken into on the evening of Friday 9 October by two masked men, one of whom they say was carrying a machete.

Footage from a camera at a nearby house, shared with UB1UB2, shows a dark grey Audi saloon pulling up on a residential street at about 9.08pm. Two men, both wearing hoods and with their faces covered, get out of the car and walk quickly towards the property.

What the family say happened

The family say their Ring doorbell camera went offline a few minutes after the car arrived. They say the men then smashed a front window to get into the house.

According to the family, one of the men was carrying a machete. They say one wore a dark hoodie with a large "NYPD" print on the front, which they hope may help someone recognise him.

The family have not said what, if anything, was taken, or whether anyone was hurt. The Metropolitan Police have not publicly confirmed the incident, and no arrests have been announced.

Appeal for witnesses and footage

The family are asking anyone who was in the area on Friday evening to check their doorbell, dashcam or home CCTV footage from around 9pm. Anyone who saw a dark grey Audi saloon, or two hooded men acting suspiciously nearby, is being urged to come forward.

Anyone with information can contact the police on 101 or report online through the Metropolitan Police website. Information can also be given anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. In an emergency, always call 999.

Policing in Norwood Green

Norwood Green is a largely residential ward in the south of the London Borough of Ealing, between Southall and the Hounslow border. Its policing is handled by the Metropolitan Police's Norwood Green Safer Neighbourhoods Team, part of the Met's West Area command, which covers Ealing, Hillingdon and Hounslow.

Residents can contact the local team, find out about ward panel meetings and read crime figures for the area on the Met's website. Police routinely advise householders to keep doors and windows locked, use timer switches on lights when they are out, and keep car keys and valuables out of sight from doors and windows.

Officers also advise anyone whose home security camera suddenly goes offline or loses connection to check it straight away, and to call 999 if they think a break-in is happening.
