A van crashed and knocked down a set of traffic lights at the M4 Junction 5 roundabout in Langley at around midday on Thursday 22 October.

Footage shared with UB1UB2 shows a white van up on the verge under the motorway bridge with its front end badly crushed. A traffic light post is lying flat across the road beside it.

A National Highways vehicle was at the scene. A highways worker can be seen sweeping the road, which had been covered in absorbent granules, and cones closed off one lane.

Lights reportedly out across the roundabout

The person who filmed the scene said that all the traffic lights on the roundabout were off after the crash. That is likely to have caused delays for drivers coming off the motorway and using the junction.

It is not yet known how the crash happened or whether anyone was hurt. Police have not confirmed any details of the incident.

A busy junction

Junction 5 links the M4 with the A4 London Road. It is signposted for Langley, Colnbrook and Datchet, and it is one of the main routes into the east of Slough. Many people also use it to reach Heathrow and the villages around Colnbrook.

The roundabout sits beneath the motorway. National Highways is responsible for the M4, and Slough Borough Council looks after the local roads that meet the junction.

This stretch of the M4 around Langley has had several crashes in recent years, including collisions that closed lanes and caused long rush-hour delays.

Langley is covered by Thames Valley Police. Anyone who saw the crash, or who has dashcam footage, can contact the police on 101, or on 999 in an emergency. Information can also be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
