An articulated lorry ended up angled across the kerb at the Tesco superstore in Perivale on the evening of Wednesday 21 October, blocking an entrance and holding up a car behind it.

Footage shared with UB1UB2 shows the lorry at about 7.45pm. Its trailer is partly over the paved walkway and its cab is turned sharply across an entrance. A car waits with its headlights on just behind the trailer.

The trailer's rear lights were on when the footage was taken. A few people stopped on the pavement nearby to watch.

Cause not confirmed

It is not known how the lorry ended up in this position, how long it took to move, or whether any vehicle, kerb or paving was damaged. Tesco has not commented, and there is no sign that police were called.

Nobody is reported to have been hurt.

A busy site on the A40

The store is on Western Avenue, part of the A40, beside the Art Deco Hoover Building, which is one of Perivale's best-known landmarks. The store's address is the Old Hoover Building, London UB6 8DW. It is a large superstore with a free car park and is used by shoppers from across Perivale, Greenford and the wider Ealing area.

Delivery lorries visit large supermarkets like this throughout the day and evening, and space for heavy goods vehicles to turn can be tight in car parks and service areas that are also used by shoppers' cars and people on foot.

Drivers who are held up or blocked in by a vehicle on private land, such as a supermarket car park, are usually advised to ask store staff first. If a vehicle is causing danger on a public road, call the police on 101, or 999 in an emergency.
