An SUV caught fire outside Langley station in Slough on Thursday afternoon, 8 October. Firefighters in breathing apparatus put out the flames.

Footage shared with UB1UB2, taken at about 3pm, shows the front of the car on Station Road covered in flames and giving off thick black smoke. Other cars were parked nearby, and traffic cones had been placed along the road.

The fire left the car's bonnet and engine bay completely burnt out. Police were also at the scene.

Occupants got out

According to the person who filmed the fire, two women were in the car and got out when it caught fire. No injuries have been reported.

The cause of the fire has not been confirmed.

Langley is covered by Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service, which has a fire station in the area, and the area is policed by Thames Valley Police. Neither service had published details of the incident at the time of writing.

A busy spot

Langley station is used by Elizabeth line and Great Western Railway trains between London and Reading, and Station Road is the main way in to the station for cars, buses and people on foot. At the time, it was not clear whether the fire caused any disruption on the road.

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service crews in the Slough area are regularly called to vehicle fires, both on local roads and on the nearby M4 between junctions 5 and 6.

What to do if your car catches fire

Fire services advise drivers who notice smoke or flames coming from their vehicle to pull over as soon as it is safe and switch off the engine. Get everyone out, move well away from the vehicle and call 999.

Drivers are urged not to open the bonnet or go back to the car to collect belongings, because the fire can spread quickly once air gets in.

Anyone who saw what happened and has information can contact Thames Valley Police on 101.
