Traffic came to a complete standstill on the approach to Hanger Lane in Ealing late on Saturday 26 September, with emergency services at the scene further along the road.
Footage shared with UB1UB2 just after 11pm shows vehicles stopped across every lane, including lorries, coaches and cars. A fire engine and several police cars could be seen ahead of the queue.
Police and the fire service have not confirmed what happened. It is not known whether anyone was hurt, or whether any lanes were formally closed.
A busy junction
Hanger Lane gyratory is where the A40 Western Avenue meets the A406 North Circular Road, and it is one of the busiest road junctions in London. Hanger Lane Underground station on the Central line sits in the middle of it.
Because so much traffic passes through, even a short blockage there can cause long queues on all approaches. That includes the A40 towards Perivale and Greenford, and the North Circular towards Ealing, Park Royal and Neasden.
The junction has seen disruption before. In past years, overturned lorries, vehicle fires and faults in the Hanger Lane underpass have brought traffic to a halt.
Checking before you travel
Drivers can check live road conditions and closures on Transport for London's status updates before setting off. TfL publishes disruption alerts for the A40 and A406, including the Hanger Lane underpass.
Anyone who saw what happened, or who has information, can contact the police on 101, or call 999 in an emergency. Information can also be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
