A van was left badly damaged in the middle of a junction on Uxbridge Road in Hayes on Thursday night, 24 September, after a crash involving a car.
The collision happened at the traffic lights opposite Springfield Road Retail Park. Fire, ambulance and police crews were all at the scene.
Footage shared with UB1UB2 shows the wrecked van stopped across the junction, with pieces of bumper scattered over the pedestrian crossing. Several people can be seen standing on the pavement and the traffic island as emergency vehicles wait close by.
What witnesses said
The person who filmed the scene said a car went through a red light at about 40mph and hit the van. This account has not been confirmed by the police.
The Metropolitan Police, London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade have not said publicly whether anyone was hurt, how many vehicles were involved or whether anyone was arrested.
A busy stretch of road
Uxbridge Road, the A4020, is one of the main routes through Hayes. It links Southall and Ealing to the east with Hillingdon and Uxbridge to the west, and carries heavy traffic and several bus routes day and night.
Springfield Road Retail Park, off Uxbridge Road in the UB4 area, has shops including Wickes and Screwfix as well as a 24-hour gym, so the junction is used by many shoppers and drivers, including late in the evening.
This stretch of Uxbridge Road has seen other serious incidents in recent years, including a four-car collision that caused disruption in the area.
